Recovery Guide After Labiaplasty, Vaginoplasty & Vaginal Rejuvenation – AYT Clinic Antalya

Vaginal aesthetics recovery is an important part of achieving a safe, comfortable and successful result after intimate surgery. Whether you have undergone labiaplasty, vaginoplasty, vaginal rejuvenation, perineoplasty, clitoral hood reduction, mons pubis reduction, or a combination of procedures, following your surgeon's aftercare instructions carefully can support healing and help reduce the risk of complications.

At AYT Clinic Antalya, patients travelling to Turkey for vaginal aesthetic surgery receive detailed post-operative instructions and follow-up support throughout their recovery. Because every procedure and patient is different, recovery times and activity restrictions may vary according to the surgery performed and your individual healing progress.

Swelling, tenderness, bruising, tightness and mild discomfort are common during the early recovery period. Mild spotting or discharge may also occur following certain procedures. These symptoms generally improve gradually as the tissues heal.

Following your surgeon's instructions, taking prescribed medication correctly, maintaining appropriate intimate hygiene and attending follow-up appointments are important throughout your recovery.

The First Days

The First Days

What to Expect During the First Days After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

During the first few days after vaginal aesthetic surgery, swelling, tenderness and mild bruising are common around the treated area. Swelling may initially increase before gradually beginning to decrease.

Temporary discomfort while sitting, walking or using the toilet may occur. Mild spotting or a small amount of discharge may also be expected following certain procedures.

Temporary tightness, numbness or changes in sensation can occur as the tissues begin to heal.

What to Do During the First Days After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

Rest and avoid unnecessary walking, prolonged standing, heavy lifting and activities that create pressure or friction around the surgical area.

Keep the treated area clean and dry according to your surgeon's instructions. Do not rub the area or apply creams, antiseptics, perfumed products or intimate washes unless specifically recommended.

Cold application may be recommended during the early recovery period to help manage swelling and discomfort. Cold packs should never be applied directly to the skin and should only be used as instructed by your medical team.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and underwear that does not place unnecessary pressure on the treated area.

Take all prescribed medications exactly as instructed. Do not start, stop or change pain relief medication, antibiotics, supplements or other medicines without discussing this with your medical team.

1–2 Weeks After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

1–2 Weeks After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

What to Expect During Weeks 1–2

During the first 1–2 weeks, swelling, bruising and tenderness generally begin to improve. Walking and sitting usually become progressively more comfortable.

Some swelling, sensitivity, itching, tightness or temporary numbness may still be present during this stage.

If dissolvable stitches have been used, they may gradually begin to dissolve as healing progresses. Do not pull, cut or attempt to remove stitches yourself.

Recovery may take longer after more extensive procedures such as vaginoplasty or when multiple vaginal aesthetic procedures are combined.

What to Do During Weeks 1–2

Continue following your surgeon's hygiene and wound-care instructions.

Light daily activities and short walks can usually be increased gradually according to your surgeon's advice and your comfort.

Avoid running, cycling, heavy lifting, intense exercise, squatting and activities that create significant pressure or friction around the genital area.

Avoid tight trousers and clothing that may irritate the surgical area.

When using the toilet, maintain careful hygiene and avoid unnecessary friction around the treated tissues.

2–4 Weeks After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

2–4 Weeks After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

What to Expect During Weeks 2–4

During weeks 2–4, swelling and sensitivity generally continue to decrease and the treated area gradually begins to look and feel more natural.

Most patients become increasingly comfortable performing normal daily activities. However, deeper tissues may still be healing even when the external area appears significantly improved.

Patients who have undergone vaginoplasty, perineoplasty or combined vaginal aesthetic procedures may require a longer period of internal healing.

What to Do During Weeks 2–4

Gradually increase your normal daily activities according to your surgeon's recommendations.

Strenuous exercise, cycling, spinning, heavy weight training and activities that create significant pressure on the genital area should still be avoided until your surgeon confirms that they are safe.

Swimming pools, the sea, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms and hammams should also be avoided until the surgical area has healed sufficiently and your surgeon has given approval.

Do not return to intensive physical activity simply because swelling or discomfort has improved.

4–6 Weeks After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

4–6 Weeks After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

What to Expect During Weeks 4–6

By weeks 4–6, many patients experience a significant reduction in swelling, tenderness and discomfort.

The treated tissues continue to soften and settle, although mild residual swelling or sensitivity may remain.

Recovery after vaginoplasty or combined procedures may take longer because internal tissues also require time to heal.

What to Do During Weeks 4–6

Continue following your surgeon's instructions even if you feel substantially recovered.

Exercise and other demanding physical activities should be restarted gradually and only after appropriate medical clearance.

Sexual Intercourse After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

Sexual intercourse should be avoided during the early healing period.

Depending on the procedure, patients may need to wait approximately 4–6 weeks or longer before resuming sexual activity. Labiaplasty, vaginoplasty and combined procedures can have different recovery requirements.

Do not resume penetrative sexual activity based only on a general timeline. Your surgeon should confirm that healing is sufficient.

Returning to sexual activity too early may place unnecessary pressure on healing tissues and may increase the risk of pain, bleeding or wound problems.

Tampons and menstrual cups should also be avoided until your surgeon confirms that internal healing is sufficient. If you have your period during early recovery, follow the hygiene instructions provided by your medical team and use the recommended sanitary products.

6–12 Weeks After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

6–12 Weeks After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

What to Expect During Weeks 6–12

During this stage, swelling should continue to settle and the treated tissues gradually become softer and more natural.

Many patients can return to most normal activities once their surgeon confirms that healing is progressing appropriately.

Internal healing after vaginoplasty or more extensive procedures may continue even after external discomfort has significantly improved.

What to Do During Weeks 6–12

Continue returning gradually to your normal lifestyle.

Maintain appropriate intimate hygiene and monitor the treated area for unexpected changes.

Exercise, cycling, sexual activity and other activities that place pressure on the treated area should only be resumed after medical clearance if restrictions are still in place.

3–6 Months After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

3–6 Months After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

What to Expect During Months 3–6

During months 3–6, residual swelling generally continues to decrease and the tissues progressively soften and settle.

The appearance of the treated area becomes increasingly natural as healing matures. Surgical scars also continue to change, soften and fade over time.

The time required to see the final result varies according to the procedure performed and individual healing characteristics.

What to Do During Months 3–6

Maintain a healthy lifestyle, balanced nutrition, good hydration and appropriate intimate hygiene.

Continue following any individual recommendations provided by your surgeon.

Even after returning home, contact your medical team if you notice unexpected changes or have concerns about your recovery.

Medication, Smoking & Alcohol After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

Medication should always be taken according to your surgeon's instructions. Pain relief medication may be prescribed during early recovery, while antibiotics may be prescribed when clinically appropriate.

Do not start or stop prescription medicines, over-the-counter medications or supplements without discussing them with your medical team. Certain medications, including aspirin, some anti-inflammatory medicines and some supplements, may affect bleeding or interact with your treatment.

Smoking, Nicotine & Vaping

Smoking and nicotine can negatively affect blood circulation and wound healing and may increase the risk of post-operative complications.

Avoid smoking and nicotine for the period recommended by your surgeon before and after surgery. This includes cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vaping products and other nicotine-containing products.

Vaping should not be considered a safe alternative to smoking during surgical recovery.

Alcohol

Alcohol should be avoided during the early recovery period, particularly while taking medications that may interact with alcohol.

Your surgeon will advise when alcohol can safely be resumed according to your procedure, medications and healing progress.

Showering & Intimate Hygiene After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

Showering & Intimate Hygiene After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery

Good hygiene is particularly important during vaginal aesthetics recovery.

Follow your surgeon's instructions regarding when you can shower and how the surgical area should be cleaned.

Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the treated area. Perfumed soaps, intimate deodorants, fragranced products and other potentially irritating products should not be used until your surgeon confirms they are appropriate.

If sanitary pads are required for mild spotting or menstruation, change them regularly and maintain careful hygiene.

Do not use tampons or menstrual cups until your surgeon confirms that it is safe.

Nutrition & Hydration During Recovery

Nutrition & Hydration During Recovery

Maintaining good nutrition and hydration supports the body's normal healing process.

Drink sufficient fluids and maintain a balanced diet with adequate protein and nutritious foods.

Constipation and straining can cause additional discomfort after some genital aesthetic procedures, particularly when deeper vaginal or perineal tissues are involved.

If you experience constipation, discuss appropriate management with your medical team rather than starting medication or supplements without advice.

Driving, Working & Daily Activities

Return to work depends on the type of surgery performed, your individual recovery and whether your job involves physical activity.

Patients with desk-based jobs and those whose work requires lifting, prolonged standing or significant physical activity may have different recovery timelines.

Do not drive while taking medication that causes drowsiness or affects your reactions. You should also be able to sit comfortably and perform necessary movements safely before returning to driving.

Your surgeon will provide individual guidance based on your procedure and recovery progress.

Flying Home After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery in Turkey

Flying Home After Vaginal Aesthetic Surgery in Turkey

International patients should remain in Antalya for the period recommended in their personalised treatment plan. Before returning home, your medical team will assess your recovery when required and provide instructions for continuing your aftercare. The appropriate time to fly depends on the procedure performed, your general health and your individual healing progress. During longer journeys, follow your medical team's recommendations regarding hydration and safe movement. Additional precautions may be recommended depending on your individual risk factors. Do not travel home earlier than recommended without discussing it with your medical team.

When Should You Contact Your Surgeon?

When Should You Contact Your Surgeon?

Swelling, mild bruising, tenderness and discomfort can be expected during normal recovery. However, symptoms that are severe, unexpected or becoming progressively worse should be assessed.

Contact AYT Clinic or your treating medical team if you experience:

  • Increasing or severe pain
  • Heavy or persistent bleeding
  • Sudden or rapidly increasing swelling
  • Wound or stitch separation
  • Increasing redness, warmth or signs of possible infection
  • Fever or feeling significantly unwell
  • Unusual or foul-smelling discharge
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Any unexpected symptom that causes concern

Chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, fainting, coughing up blood or significant one-sided leg pain or swelling require urgent medical assessment and should not wait for a routine follow-up.

The procedure didn’t hurt and took less than an hour

went to AYT for upper eye surgery, and I am delighted with the results. Most of the bruising had gone very quickly after 7 days of taking Arnica tablets (bought in the UK; they don’t seem to sell the tablets in Turkey) and using the Arnica cream provided by AYT.

It is well worth the money to have it done. The procedure didn’t hurt and took less than an hour. I didn’t need to take any painkillers, I just took 2 paracetamol after the local anaesthetic wore off, and that was all. Everything was explained by the Surgeon in English, and Olivia was excellent at answering any queries, and she was always available to answer me.
The stitches were easy to remove when I returned home. I would recommend!
