Breast surgery recovery is an important part of achieving safe, natural-looking, and long-lasting results. Whether you have undergone breast augmentation, breast uplift (mastopexy), or breast reduction surgery in Turkey, following proper aftercare instructions helps reduce swelling, support healing, and improve overall comfort during recovery.

What to Expect After Breast Surgery

After breast reduction surgery, discomfort during the first 24 hours is completely normal. Patients who undergo breast augmentation surgery may also experience temporary back pain caused by muscle pressure and implant adaptation. Swelling and bruising are common after all breast surgeries in Turkey and will gradually improve during the healing process. Immediately after surgery, you will wear medical dressings and a special post-operative support bra. Surgical drains may remain for approximately 3–5 days, especially after breast lift and breast reduction procedures. Your surgeon at AYT Clinic Antalya will explain your dressing and drain removal process during your follow-up appointments.

What to Do During the First 24 Hours

Due to anaesthesia, water is usually allowed after approximately 2 hours and light meals after around 4 hours, depending on your medical condition and your surgeon’s recommendations. For a smooth breast surgery recovery in Turkey, you should wear your support bra continuously for 6 weeks unless advised otherwise. Gentle walking is strongly recommended to improve blood circulation and reduce blood clot risks, while moving your legs regularly during rest can also support circulation. Smoking and alcohol should be avoided during the recovery period, as they may slow healing and increase complication risks. Anti-embolism socks should remain on until your surgeon confirms they can be removed.

What to Expect During Weeks 1–4 After Breast Surgery

During the first weeks after breast surgery, your breasts or implants may appear higher, firmer, or larger than expected. This is completely normal and usually settles within 4–6 weeks. Swelling and discomfort are most noticeable during the first week and gradually improve between weeks 2–4. Temporary fatigue is also common while your body adapts to the healing process.

What to Do During Weeks 1–4

Heavy lifting and upper-body exercises should be avoided during the early recovery period. Staying hydrated, taking medications as prescribed, and avoiding swimming pools, saunas, and excessive heat will help support proper healing and reduce swelling after breast surgery in Turkey.

What to Expect During Months 1–6 After Breast Surgery

During this stage of breast surgery recovery, your breasts will continue to soften and settle into a more natural shape. Swelling will gradually decrease, and your final breast size and contour will become more visible over time. Most patients achieve near-final results within 6 months after breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction surgery in Turkey. Surgical scars will also begin fading during this period.

What to Do During Months 1–6

Unless your surgeon at AYT Clinic Antalya advises otherwise, you may begin wearing a sports bra after approximately 6 weeks. Wearing a supportive bra during exercise is also recommended to minimise breast movement and improve comfort.

Most patients can return to all sports and physical activities after 3 months. However, if you have undergone breast augmentation surgery, excessive pressure on the chest muscles should still be avoided during the healing process. Exercise intensity should increase gradually over time.

During recovery, incision areas remain highly sensitive to sunlight. Direct sun exposure and tanning beds should be avoided, and SPF 15+ sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection should be used for at least 6 months to help protect scars and support proper healing.

What to Expect After 6 Months

Around 1 year after breast surgery, your breasts will be fully healed and any numbness or sensitivity will continue to improve. Final breast shape and softness will become more natural as the healing process completes.

The procedure didn’t hurt and took less than an hour

went to AYT for upper eye surgery, and I am delighted with the results. Most of the bruising had gone very quickly after 7 days of taking Arnica tablets (bought in the UK; they don’t seem to sell the tablets in Turkey) and using the Arnica cream provided by AYT.

It is well worth the money to have it done. The procedure didn’t hurt and took less than an hour. I didn’t need to take any painkillers, I just took 2 paracetamol after the local anaesthetic wore off, and that was all. Everything was explained by the Surgeon in English, and Olivia was excellent at answering any queries, and she was always available to answer me.
The stitches were easy to remove when I returned home. I would recommend!
