AYT Clinic Antalya offers complication and travel health insurance as part of its treatment coordination services for international patients travelling to Turkey for plastic surgery and other medical procedures.

What Is a Surgical Complication?

A surgical complication is a medical problem that may occur during or after surgery, potentially affecting recovery and requiring additional medical treatment.

Complications depend on several factors, including the procedure, the patient's medical history, overall health, and healing process. Even when surgery is performed according to established medical standards, complications cannot always be prevented.

What Complications Can Occur After Plastic Surgery?

Although plastic surgery is generally safe when performed under appropriate medical conditions, certain complications may occur during recovery.

These may include infections, haematomas (blood accumulation), seromas (fluid accumulation), delayed wound healing, and wound separation. Patients undergoing breast implant surgery may also experience capsular contracture, which can cause firmness, discomfort, or changes in breast shape.

Less common but potentially serious complications include excessive bleeding, tissue damage, blood clots, pulmonary embolism, and anaesthesia-related problems.

Depending on their severity, complications may require medication, wound care, drainage, additional medical monitoring, or surgical intervention.

Important: Not all complications are automatically covered by insurance. Coverage depends on the terms, limits, and exclusions of the patient's individual policy.

How Does Complication Insurance Work?

Complication insurance provides financial support for eligible medical expenses associated with treating postoperative complications.

Depending on the insurance policy, coverage may include medical examinations, diagnostic tests, hospital treatment, anaesthesia, medication, and additional surgical procedures when medically necessary.

All benefits are subject to the insurance provider's assessment, policy conditions, and coverage limits.

• Complication treatment coverage: Up to €2,500

• Geographical coverage: Turkey

• Travel health insurance: Up to €30,000

• Emergency medical transportation: Up to €30,000

• Medical consultation: Unlimited, subject to policy terms

Coverage applies to eligible complications treated in Turkey according to the insurance provider's terms and conditions.

Extended Complication Insurance Options

For patients seeking additional protection, extended insurance plans are available.

12-Month Insurance Option

Extends the standard insurance period from 6 to 12 months, with eligible complication treatment provided in Turkey.

VIP Complication Insurance

Our VIP plan offers additional benefits, which may include:

• Complication treatment coverage up to €5,000

• Up to €500 for certain minor complications treated in the patient's home country

• Financial assistance for return travel to Turkey

• Accommodation support during eligible complication treatment

Insurance upgrades must be arranged before surgery, and all benefits are subject to the selected policy's conditions.

What Should You Do If a Complication Occurs After Surgery?

If you experience an unexpected medical problem following surgery, contact your patient coordinator or medical team as soon as possible.

You may be asked to provide photographs, medical reports, or additional information to help assess your condition.

Our coordination team can assist with notifying the insurance provider and organising further medical assessment or treatment when necessary.

Important: If you experience severe bleeding, chest pain, breathing difficulties, or other serious symptoms, seek emergency medical attention immediately without waiting for insurance approval.

Is Complication Insurance Still Valid After Returning Home?

AYT Clinic's standard complication insurance covers eligible medical treatment performed in Turkey during the insured period.

Treatment received in the patient's home country is not covered under the standard plan. However, selected VIP policies may provide limited coverage for certain minor complications treated abroad.

Patients should review their geographical coverage and travel-related benefits before surgery.

What Is Revision Surgery?

Revision surgery is a secondary surgical procedure considered when the outcome of a previous aesthetic operation differs significantly from the originally agreed and medically achievable treatment plan.

Plastic surgery results can vary depending on individual skin characteristics, tissue elasticity, healing ability, and the surgical techniques used.

In certain cases, minor corrective procedures, commonly known as touch-up treatments, may also be considered to address small contour irregularities or scars.

How Does the AYT Clinic Antalya Revision Policy Work?

Revision requests following facial, breast, and body contouring procedures organised through AYT Clinic are reviewed by the AYT Clinic Medical Review Board, consisting of qualified medical professionals.

The board examines the original treatment plan, postoperative photographs, relevant medical reports, and the patient's recovery progress.

Where necessary, an online consultation or an in-person medical examination may be requested.

The Medical Review Board determines whether revision surgery is medically appropriate and necessary. Each case is assessed individually, and revision procedures are not automatically approved.

When Can Revision Surgery Be Assessed?

After plastic surgery, swelling must gradually subside, tissues need time to settle, and the healing process must progress before the surgical outcome can be properly evaluated.

Under the AYT Clinic Antalya Revision Policy, assessments are generally carried out after the initial 4–5-month healing period.

Patients must submit their revision request within one month after the applicable healing period has ended. The exact assessment timeline is determined by the Medical Review Board according to the patient's individual recovery.

Which Plastic Surgery Procedures Are Covered by the Revision Policy?

The AYT Clinic Revision Policy applies to certain aesthetic surgical procedures arranged through our organisation.

These include:

• Facelift and neck lift surgery

• Rhinoplasty

• Eyelid surgery and brow lift

• Breast augmentation, breast lift, and breast reduction

• Liposuction and tummy tuck surgery

• Other eligible body contouring procedures

Dental treatments, hair transplantation, genital aesthetic surgery, and bariatric surgery are not covered by this Revision Policy.

How Are Revision Surgery Costs Covered?

If revision surgery is approved by the Medical Review Board, the associated expenses are allocated according to the AYT Clinic Revision Policy.

For approved revision procedures:

• Surgeon's fee: Covered by AYT Clinic or the relevant surgeon.

• Required preoperative medical tests: Covered by AYT Clinic.

• Airport transfers: Covered by AYT Clinic.

• Hospital, operating theatre, and anaesthesia costs: Paid by the patient.

• Implants and additional surgical materials: Paid by the patient when replacement is required.

• Hotel accommodation: Partial accommodation support may be provided for the number of nights approved by the Medical Review Board.

• Flights, visas, and personal expenses: Paid by the patient.

All applicable costs and accommodation arrangements are confirmed in writing before the revision procedure.

What Is Not Covered by the Revision Policy?

The Revision Policy does not cover requests based solely on changes in personal aesthetic preferences, requests for a different appearance than originally agreed, or changes resulting from ageing, significant weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or lifestyle factors.

Results affected by failure to follow postoperative instructions or by additional treatment performed by another healthcare provider in the same surgical area may also be excluded.

The natural limitations of surgery, including pre-existing asymmetry, individual scar formation, and tissue elasticity, are considered during the assessment.

Each request is reviewed individually, taking into account the patient's medical history and healing progress.

How to Request a Revision Assessment

Patients who have concerns regarding their surgical results may contact their AYT Clinic patient coordinator within the applicable revision request period.

Patients are asked to provide recent photographs and any relevant medical reports to support the assessment.

The Medical Review Board generally reviews the submitted documentation within 10 working days, after which a written decision is communicated to the patient.

The board may approve a revision or touch-up procedure, recommend additional healing time, or determine that revision surgery is not medically necessary.

If revision surgery is approved, the procedure date is arranged in consultation with the patient. The approved revision must be performed within 12 months of the approval date.
